We stayed at the first night in Puerto Morelos at the Rancho Sak-Ol (wrong hostel with the price of an expensive hotel) and moved to Abbey del Sol. We drove directly by, and they gave us a beautiful apartment with a pool.
Also, the payment was straightforward (PayPal), and after problems with that (mixed one letter in the eMail) they were very supportive, and we were allowed to check in before the problem was fixed.
So if you stay in Puerto Morelos and don’t want to stay in an expensive hotel (or even in a more expensive hostel), check first with them – for sure one of the best options.
We stayed one night on our way to Cozumel, then one more on our way back. We were in #12, which is perfect for a one night stay. The staff is friendly with their ascension bay fly fishing suggestions, the grounds are beautiful, and the beds are comfy. Puerto Morelos is a lovely little town halfway between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, with excellent restaurants (John Grey’s for breakfast, trust me).
My husband and I decided to vacation in Puerto Morales with our friends who have been vacations there for a few years. They always stayed at an Abbey del Sol property. We stayed at Casa Sonoma #1 and loved it. We have a fully equipped kitchen, which was great for breakfast and lunch. We ate dinner out as there are so many beautiful restaurants.
Casa Sonoma has a small pool in a beautiful backyard. Very quiet for relaxing after a long day at the beach, which is only a 2-minute walk. We also have a table and chairs in the front to relax in the morning with a coffee.
We rented Casa Anita, 2 bedroom 2 bath house across from the main office at Abby Del Sol. Had a great week enjoying the beach and touring the area. Took a day trip to the ruins at Coba with our daughter. I enjoyed walking to the village square and taking in all the sights. A great break from winter!
